Gatton is a rural town located within the Lockyer Valley Region of Queensland with a population of around 8,000 people. Gatton, like so many other towns in the South East Queensland region, gets a lot of rainfall (around 700mm) per year. The rain however mostly falls in the summer months of January and February. The winter months can see long dry periods making water storage an important part of living in the area.
As recently as 2018 Gatton, along with much of the Lockyer area, was declared to be in drought conditions, highlighting the importance of rainwater tanks and effective water storage solutions.
Gatton, the Lockyer Valley region and bushfire season
Climate change experts are predicting an increase in the number and intensity of bushfires across Australia in the next few years. The whole Lockyer Valley region faces the dangers of bushfires more than ever. Investing in a metal water tank with a petrol powered firefighting pump can provide protection for your property. You can find out more about water tanks and bushfires by visiting our recent post Bushfire Water Tank Requirements.
The Gatton climate is warm and temperate with significant rainfall throughout the year making Gatton ideal for rainwater harvesting.
- A lot of rain (rainy season) falls in the months: January, February, March and December.
- December is the wettest month, with an average of 108mm of rainfall
- July is the driest month with and average of just 23mm of rainfall
- The average amount of annual precipitation is: 728mm
This means with a roof space of just 125㎡ you can potentially harvest over 90,500 Litres of water every year. The Gatton and surrounding region is a great place to harvest rainwater.
